Hello World…Or whoever is actually reading this. =)
So i’ve been getting in touch with my Indian heritage BOLLYWOOD SONGS AND MOVIES OF COURSE.
i LOVE the movies from the 90s and early 2000s..because lately they’ve been more Hollywood than Bollywood. i mean you can’t have songs in English or film in UK/USA..i mean…we want proper Indian Music and proper scenery of cows and fields of flowers and stuff.
yeah…i’m feeling very nostalgic for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kuch Naa Kaho, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Lagaan, Mohabbatein, Khabi Khusi Kabhie Gham, Dhadkan, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and many more…how can i forget the CLASSIC- Dilwale Dulhania le Jayenge- aka. DDLJ
AH…i think i’m in LOVE with Aamir Khan’s character in 3 Idiots- Rancho…
there’s something about Bollywood tunes that just makes you want to fall in love- i’m usually a realist but damn i can be such a hopeless romantic…oh dear…
Here’s a song from the moving Lagaan (2001) which is about cricket amongst other things. yes it does have Aamir Khan in it…I don’t know if the subtitles are correct since i don’t speak the language- it’s not the full song, the full song is around 6 minutes and has an English bit in it but i don’t like the English bit.
If some random guy comes and serenades me and catches my arm and starts playing with my scarf and suddenly we’re running in a field of flowers or on the beach and the temperature is perfect and the sun is shining brightly or the moon is glowing in the starry night sky- how picturesque..and so never gonna happen. but that’s the BEAUTY of Bollywood.
Yeah…so Bollywood Rocks…i love the vibrant colours and the dancing and singing- such feel good movies. Ah..Aamir Khan…who although he’s about 46 he can look like a 22 year old…baby face!!! hehe.
i recently watched a Non-Bollywood movie but it was in Hind so you DO need subtitles…it does have singing and dancing but it’s not a FUN movie…it’s sad because it’s based on TRUTH…1947- Earth (Directed by Deepa Mehta) and it’s about the partition which Gandhi was against!!!..i mean…it’s so STUPID…look at the two neighbouring countries now…when my mother went when she was 19 she said there wasn’t much of a difference other than she found the Indian people more friendly…
India vs Pakistan…the war is endless whether it’s in cricket or GDP or anything…i mean they were ONE COUNTRY…all brothers and yet they turned against each other…for WHAT?! LAND?!
“If I had to choose between betraying my country and betraying my friend, I hope I should have the guts to betray my country” E.M. Forster
“What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or in the holy name of liberty or democracy?” Gandhi
India is predominantly Hindu with some Christians and Sikhs and STILL Muslims…my family didn’t leave during the partition!!!
Pakistan is predominantly Muslim with other religions being a minority but there are still Hindus living there.
Both countries have so much history and are such beautiful places…i’ve never been but of course i want too!!!
The Partition just resulted in mass violence and huge betrayals..friends killing friends and savagery everywhere. India has its Independence but at what cost?! how many lives were lost, friends betrayed and just more hatred and segregation!!!!
“I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.” Gandhi
i love the idea of markets…
The markets with the rank smell of cow dung and that hot dusty smell of market places in hot countries but then rich fragrances of spices like saffron and then sweet smelling fruits…loud noises of car horns and cows mooing and people shouting in various languages (not just Urdu, Hindi or Gujarati) while people try to con you into buying this because it’s better and cheaper than the guy opposite and of course it was handmade and a good price for you…no..just because I speak English it’s RIP OFF so a warning…if you know people who speak the language…THEY must bargain then you’ll get a good deal because Indians are known for their miserly ways…i should know…anytime something is on sale whether we need it or whether it is useful my grandfather and even father will buy 5 of it…just because it was on SALE.
if something is BOG OF (Buy One Get One Free) then we must obviously by MORE than one!!!
i also love a good bargain and we all want to
get the most from our money but Indians take it a bit too far…
Anyhew…moving on to bees…
well since it’s spring, bees are buzzing about merrily pollinating etc…
i LOVE bees…since reading The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and watching the movie i’ve learn that bees need LOVE and they are such incredible creatures.
They are vital for our existence as this world is a fragile ecosystem and it needs to be balanced but we are continuously taking more than we give back so it’s out of balance and using certain pesticides is killing the bee population and this has negative consequences on harvests and flowers etc…
BEES are so important to our existence as approximately 1/3 of what we eat is pollinated by bees!!!
Also…i find bubble bees INCREDIBLY ADORABLE. they are so chubby and furry…hehe.
Baking…i love baking…my mother recently bought me the new Humming Bird Bakery book CAKE DAYS full of awesome every day recipes…me like.
I just love looking at the pictures and imaging what they’d taste like…although i’m not too keen on the idea of Rose Cupcakes…i’m not a big fan of the rose scent or flavour- especially rose syrup..a common ingredient in Indian milkshakes (or maybe it’s just a South African Indian thing)…GROSS!!!
My FAVOURITE thing to bake is cupcakes. i am obsessed with cupcakes…why…i don’t know but i just am. i have cupcake pyjamas, tins, earrings, bag, bookmark etc..
I dread the day when i wake up and hate cupcakes…because after all Too Much of ANYTHING is Bad For YOU!!! yes, even fruit and vegetables!!!
I love baking because it’s an ART…the process is fascinating, all those ingredients and measuring stuff precisely…i can be such a perfectionist at times and then DECORATING IS THE BEST PART…then comes the eating of course…once it looks all pretty you spend time admiring your work of art and then you taste the soft cake and the butter cream icing…Happy Cupcake Eating!
I’ve still been watching lots of 80s movies or just movies in general..Mallrats (1995) was the latest one- MAD…a guy definitely wrote the script but it was very funny though slightly disturbing at times…
So i watched Riz Khan again and they were discussing alternative energy- of course there are ALWAYS going to be advantages and disadvantages to everything but some people remain in denial because they are scared to face up to reality and accept that the world isn’t the place they thought it was.
“In each of us lie good and bad, light and dark, art and pain, choice and regret, cruelty and sacrifice. We’re each of us our own chiaroscuro, our own bit of illusion fighting to emerge into something solid, something real. We’ve got to forgive ourselves that. I must remember to forgive myself. Because there is a lot of grey to work with. No one can live in the light all the time.” Libba Bray
So while Lord of the Flies (William Golding) showed the world that man IS beast..or has the beast within…even CHILDREN who are seen as innocent but everyone has the ability to commit evil. it’s just a matter of circumstance.
Despite the cruelty that goes on int he world and the atrocities committed by HUMAN BEINGS towards fellow humans, animals and of course the raping fo the planet itself- destroying it so nothing is left. There IS hope.
“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” Paulo Coelho
Spread The Love. =)
The Hunger Games movie…they cast Primrose Everdeen and Mrs Everdeen. i’m quite happy so far- as long as the film itself is GOOD for a PG13 film then yeah…ALL IS WELL. 😉
I just read The Racist’s Gide to The People of South Africa (Simon Kilpatrick)and it’s really quite funny because a lot of the stuff is TRUE!!! the author loves people watching and observing people and so he decided to write a book about the different races in South Africa.
So i should be recieving Meg Cabot’s latest book Abandon (it’s TRILOGY) sometime soon along with Where She Went (the sequel to If I Stay by Gayle Forman) so i’m rather excited. Also..since it’s back to school i have time to read on the bus journey to and from school. Seeing my awesome friends is also a cheery thing about going back to school and as long as the sun is shining All Is Well.
I’m trying to see the silver lining in the clouds…whether they’re grey or white and fluffy (i really wish clouds were made of candyfloss…but not so sticky so you cold jump on them or have a nap on them…haha) but yes. i NEED to be more positive and less depressing because i might carry the weight of the world’s problems on my shoulders and cause extra stress for myself BUT i should smile more because ‘a smile means friendship to everyone’ and maybe my smile could make someone’s day which would be a Random Act of Kindness. 😉
So Carpe Diem people! Yes, there’s a lot we have no control over BUT we must always strive to be the best that we can be and make the effort- if you want something…WORK HARD FOR IT and if you don’t get it..it wasn’t meant to be. Something better is yet to come so just be patient.

Have A Lovely Sunshiney and Blessed Week!
